The Black Horse at Standlake!
Hello again!
Our second week in Standlake! We truly love being out here in the country! We've stuck mainly close to home, a trip or two into Witney on the bus.
One of this weeks highlights; "Sunday Roast" at the Black Horse Inn! On one of our morning walks as we approached the Inn there was a fellow out front mowing the grass. We stopped and had a nice chat with "Luke", who happened to be the owner of the Black Horse! Not only is he the chef, he is the gardener and maintenance man! He and Munchie had lots in common to talk about since Munchie's past life includes running restaurants and experiencing having to wear many hats when you run a restaurant! Luke told us the next Sunday they were featuring their "Sunday Roast". He said it was always busy and suggested if we were interested to book ahead. We decided to give it a try and book a table for the Sunday afternoon. So on Sunday we strolled down to the Pub and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon!
We both had the lamb shoulder meal and we did not go away hungry. Kudos to the gardener/chef! We loved the atmosphere of the place! Our server, Lisa, who happens to be Luke's mother-in-law, was awesome. Not only did we receive great service, but she also gave us a bit of history of the Inn and some entertaining stories about some of their regulars and their exploits! Here's a "fun fact" from Lisa; the "new" part of the Inn, where we had a table, was added on in 1673! She also said before it was a pub, it was a brothel! (I did attempt to fact check this. I didn't find anything online to confirm or deny this, so I must believe the local lore!) Check this like for the bit of history I did find - Black Horse
We spent some time in the garden as well. We cleaned up the patio at the back of the house.
And tackled the raised beds at the end of the yard. It took a few days, but we have lots of time! We like to keep busy! We will likely spend a few more hours in the yard, weather permitting!

One of Brain's favourite spots!
It's Thursday (Sep 17) as I sit here and compose this post. Our friend Yasmin is driving out from London for a visit! Munchie is of course preparing the meal we will have when she arrives! We are looking forward to her visit!
One last thing to add. On one of our walks we went by what has become Munchies favourite house in the area! The owners obviously take pride in their yard and the results show!
That's it for now! I'll post again next week!
Cheers to all!
